Miss Sioux Empire Fair Pageant:
The Miss Sioux Empire Fair pageant is in its
fifth year as an official preliminary to Miss America. What
is special and unique about this local pageant, are the
opportunities presented to the winner because of the
affiliation with the Sioux Empire Fair. Besides spending a
week at the fair, she will spend the year promoting a
community service issue that is important to her as well as
being a local spokesperson for the Children’s Miracle
Network.
Last year, Jenna Hardy (of Sioux Falls) was
named Miss Sioux Empire Fair 2007. Jenna is a recent
graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston,
Massachusetts, with a degree in Jazz Composition. This fall,
she will continue onto the University of Northern Iowa,
where she will pursue a master’s degree in Jazz Pedagogy.
Jenna hopes to obtain a teaching position at a university,
with a focus in jazz education.
At the Miss South Dakota pageant in June,
Jenna placed as first runner up. She also received
additional scholarships awards for highest scores in talent,
interview, and received the Miss America Academic Award.
This year the Miss Sioux Empire Fair pageant
will be held on August 4, 2008 at 5pm. The pageant is free
and open to the public. It will be presented at the Front
Porch. The new Miss Sioux Empire Fair will spend the week at
the fair, as a representative of the Miss America
Organization and her local community. If you are interested

Providing Scholarships and Assistance for Young Women
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading
achievement programs and the world's largest provider of
scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss
America Organization and its state and local organizations
made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship
assistance. This assistance is not just for the handful of
young women who become Miss America, but is available to the
over 12,000 young women who compete in the state and local
competitions as well.
Rich in history and social significance, the
Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit organization
that has maintained a tradition for many decades of
empowering young women to achieve their personal and
professional goals, while providing a forum in which to
express their opinions, talent and intelligence.
Scholarships have been the cornerstone of the Miss America
program since 1945 when Bess Myerson was the first Miss
America to receive a scholarship from the Organization.
Participating in the Miss America system not
only helps you pay for college and prepare for a career, it
also provides an opportunity to gain additional life
experience, working on issues of importance to society,
enhancing your personal and professional skills and
developing your performance-related and other talents.
